8.75" rear drum question

Post subject:  8.75" rear drum question
Howdy

I am in the process of overhauling my 72 demon's brake system. I'm using all new stuff so far but I am not sure where to get new drums. I didn't know there were different sizes, but it is on a car that was originally a 340, and the drums have these big elizabethan collar looking flanges that must be for cooling?

So I am stupid for not measuring width, but I know they are 10" drums...

Anybody know what I got and where to get drums for it?

They are 10X1.75". If you mean they have fins on them, then yes, they aid in cooling. You should still be able to get shoes for them, don't know about new drums though as they where an odd ball size and A body 8.75's are not very commen nowdays.

Probably not fins. Huge bell flares is what I have on the 8 3/4 I have. I though about having them cut off on a brake lathe.

What about cutting grooves in the bell flare so you have some fins?

Yup, huge bell flares is what I'm talking about!

I still don't know where to get new ones. I guess I'll just put the old ones back on for now, they got a little life left in 'em.

Anybody know where to get some? Do I have to cut down some 10x2.5 front drums? Would that even work?

They are pretty easy to crack off with a hammer by accident. :shock:

1974duster kev was looking for these same drum a few months ago, I'm pretty sure they are disco'd. If I ever change my car to LBP, I'll have a used but uncut set to sell. Another route that you might have to take is to change the backing plates to the B body type, buy B body drums, and have them redrilled for SBP. Some of us might HAVE to go this route in the future. :roll:

Depending on the type of wheel, that may not work. The center hole in the BBP drum, and wheel is larger, then the SBP. The center of the axle is larger to match.

Well, I guess somebody will need to come up with a spacer like the ones used to mate early TC's to later cranks. I've always hated that damn SBP !!!!

google gave zip.
federal mogul's website looks like back patting for shareholders, couldn't find anything specific (except that they own wagner and wagner makes drums that are quiet and good)

Sorry to ask for hand holding, but where can I order these drums from wagner?

Drums for 2.5" brake shoes will not work on an axle that used the 1.75" brake shoes. And it is not a matter of SBP vs LBP, but the distance between the wheel flange and the bearing races.

On the other hand, all drums and backing plates will interchange on all axles that used the 2.5" shoes.
