I had a lot of problems with dirty gas in my 72 demon and I finally retired it to the garage to get overhauled. The last thing to do is the fuel system- I have an electric pump and filter, 3/8" sender and aluminum hard line. The pump is ok to deadhead at the carb, so I'm not running a return line.

I know that the nipple on the tank that goes up is the output to the pump, and the other line straight out of the sender is a vent (charcoal canister), but my tank also has a small nipple above the sender, at the top front of the tank. It doesn't have the four nipples on the side I saw when I searched this topic.

If I run the one sender out to my fuel pump/ carb etc, where can I run a vent, and what do I do with the other nipple on the tank? I'd like to avoid the charcoal canister if I can do it safely.

Thanks
radar

hello,
ummm - are you SURE the sender nipple is a vent? :?
most set-ups of this vintage use the sender -pickup system.
see this pic of a typical Mopar sender pick-up (filter missing in the pic).

my 2 cents.

the sender has two nipples- the one that points up is the output- it draws from the bottom of the tank through the sock filter. the other one is for ? then the one in the top of the tank is for ?

I guess I could cap one off and even solder it since the tank is new and dry, then make the other one the vent? But where is easy and sanitary to vent the fumes?

thanks though

Sounds like somebody installed a sender equipped for a return line. The four corner vent nipples are '71 plus '70 California only; the '72+ tanks have just the one top vent nipple.

Be a real good idea to run a 3-nipple fuel filter and connect the third filter nipple to the second sender nipple.

Unfortuantely I already bought a big oil filter size free flow filter to go before my electric pump. I agree that that fitting would make a wonderful return if I was needing one! I am going to put the fuel delivery system together tomorrow or tonite, so I'll probably run the tank vent to the engine compartment opposite the ballast (way higher than the tank) and install a little filter to keep anything from going in and tidy it up some- not as good as charcoal, but not stinky or leaky barring a rollover...

Unless I can find a nice brass 3/8" T fitting I will probably run a short piece of hose with a bolt clamped in the end to cap off the return.

Thanks
