| Post subject: | trans cooler redo |
my a100 with factory auto came to me with pre owner installed aux trans cooler bypassing radiator - at first i was concerned but reading posts here and instructions on net for some of these products i see thats ok - i would however like to go ahead and run both the factory and aux cooler - 2 questions - the hayden site says unit is to be mounted with some sort of pieces between the cooler and radiator to isolate - mine does not have any such items - big deal or not? - and if so what could i use instead (first thing comes to mind is i have some old inner tubes or some left over insulation from doing the doghouse ) - next - there are threaded plugs in rad cooler now - i am guessing i am missing something here ( threaded nipple) as there are the connectors on the factory cooler lines (pushed back where the aux cooler lines are attached) and nothing to attach them to radiator? - what can i use - oo3 |

Have you pulled the plugs out of rad yet? If any coolant runs out then you know why PO just went with aux cooler. Not uncommon to spring a leak in older rads. The nipples you should be able to get at a trans shop or a good autoparts store.Last time I installed an aux cooler was many moons ago but mine had almost like a zip tye that pushed through the cooler/rad fins with a round plastic pushon to lock it all together.Another round plastic piece slipped over zip tie between cooler and rad to keep them spaced apart so no metal to metal contact, there was four of them I think.I imagine most anything with a little heat resistance should work for that.Hope this helps some, good luck. |
