I wish someone would give me a valid reason to stroke a 170. If you need more cubes, go for a RG engine. It is a lot easier/cheaper. If you want RPM, stay with the LG engine.

Alan That sounds really cool. We will have to get you up to the slant six points race in Knoxville next year. Remember the only requirement is its a slant 6. Keep us posted on the build. Frank |

I ran a Z/SA 65 Valiant, with a 170, in the mid 70's. Same car, same motor is now my "turbo" car.

Yes, I am currently switching from the 225 to the 170 for the rpms, however, I'm going boost so there is a little different path to get to the same objective. Here's something that I thought was my ace in the hole, but if you notice with a little welding and crank cutting you can make the sbc h-beam rods fit your 170. Since you'll be going custom piston most likely anyways you can have them cut the correct pin hole size or just have a different pin made from a local shop to work with the 2.2L pistons or such. |

Alan, Welcome to the board. There will be a meeting this Jan in Pigeon Forge to decide on race dates and locations for next year. Knoxville, Bristol, and Clay City, KY are very likely. Hope you can join us for one or more! Runvs - I just had a conversation with Tom at K1 rods and he pointed out that V8 rods usually have an offset to compensate for having 2 rods on one journal. This can cause premature on an inline engine with only 1 rod/journal. I had not thought of this. Zilla - I was not aware that Mike built a hot 170. Have to ask him about that. Lou |

... Back from Redding... Wayne has the MJ built 170 engine in his nice (Red) 62 Valiant and he was running 13.40's with the current "tune". Wayne and I paired-up for one of the heads-up time runs on Saturday at Redding Raceway and wow, that was one crowd-pleaser run.. Both those "Toad" cars leave hard and run about the same times... I sprayed my engine and beat him with a 12.94 The low geared 170 combo runs pretty hard thru 1st & 2nd but the long stroke SL6 really shows it's "leggs" down track, once your in 3rd and charging for the finish line, it pulls away from the small six in a steady fashion.
