check your distributor clamp bolt, you may have left it loose. check your timing. also, if your handbrake was on while you were driving a red warning light on the dash should have been alight. |

you float is stuck in the carb and the full pressure from the pump is spraying fuel up through the air vent tube for the fuel bowl, you have to take the carb apart and clean it. |

you might want to have someone observe the bowl vent to verify that before taking the carburetor apart. |

this car has not been serviced and or worked in over 20 years and it is like it gets a huge surge form the fuel pump and then it dont want to crank and it has some evaporation gonig on in there |

Sounds like carb rebuild time. REMEMBER DO NOT trade your carb in on a rebuilt from the parts store, there JUNK. Most of the rebuilders like Walker kits and parts. Frank |

the fuel that shot up out of the carb, was it a solid stream or a spray mist of fuel? |

I vote a sunk float. Had the same thing happen to me. Pull the bowl, and make sure that the spring that goes underneath the float is still there. If it is, throw a new float in it and set it to factory spec. It's hard to tell if it's too heavy or not, but if the difference is enough, you can feel which is heavier. ~THOR~ |

it was like a streem then pause and then another streem of gas |

Sunk float or grit in the fuel inlet (between the needle and seat) causing it to stay open, thus the fuel pump keeps pumping more fuel to where it overflows and squirts out. Install a new needle and seat and or float, then reset the float level per the book, about 7/8" down from the top (when measured from top of the casting after removing the power valve). You can let it idle with the top off to get a good measurement. |
