Welcome on the board. Interesting to read about one of those TAPS kits (basically a carefully-tuned 4bbl carb and...ummmm...camshaft? Don't remember) still around; I recall reading about them in the old Slant-6 News.

A very good "step one" in your project will be to buy these three books. The Peterson and Stockel books will serve very well to give you a clear idea of all the steps and procedures involved in an engine rebuild, while the factory service manual will give you the specifications and specifics on your slant-6 engine.

Let me reinforce what Dan says about the two books he is recommending. I am not an automobile mechanic, but enjoy working on my old Mopars. The Petersen book is the "How To" book and the Stockel book is the "Why" (explanations of how it works). I just got them this week....what interesting reading, great illustrations. The Stockel book has many illustrations using the Slant Six, the A-904/998/999 and the 8-3/4.

Highly recommended for the weekend tinkerer.

Way to go Dan!
