You need to be more explicit. The short answer is no. You would not be able to run significant boost on a 10:1 CR slant six and burn pump gasoline.

In short no, the predent from regular gas would be horrible. Also, you don't truely want to 9.0 would be good to give your off boost the same pop and the higher end no knock. With cooler and injection this would be possible. Give us more info to help. Wes

I'm reading a book called maximum boost that says the higher the cr the more effeciant it will be. This will be a draw through. I'm going to install 198 rods and balance the rest. I plan to port the hell out of the head and install larger valves. I want the most power out of my build without a turbo, but If I'm not satifyed then I will just add the turbo. All low bucks without modifing my car, a '73 dart sport. Other wise I will need to spend thousands to install a big block and all the modification needed for the car. Don't want a small block, nothing against them its just I never played with the other two.

On alcohol.

I wouldn't even think about using that with pump gas, especially with no intercooler. The extra efficiency of high compression won't help if you have to retard the spark timing to someplace insane to stave off detonation.

Every motor I've Built with around 10-1 has come apart with anything over 5psi on pump gas with no intercooler with intercooler 8psi was the limit. If you want to run race gas then OK but who can afford that?E85 works with higher c/r but is hard to find and starts hard when cold.If you are going to run a turbo than build your motor accordingly(no higher than 9-1c/r ,thats my 2ct.

Remember that you can Build your motor for NA then just swap the head out for boost if you are porting your own head then the only costs are the valves and Machine work/hot tanking. Everything else in the valve train could be swapped over to the boost head.
Just a thought,
Frank

What? Changing the head has nothing to do w/ how much boost you can run. Unless you mean if he has a milled head to bring up the compression, but if he's at 10:1 he's using hi-comp pistons too. You can't mill enough off the head to raise compression that much, AFAIK.

Since you are saying you are doing it the low-buck way, the answer is no. Can it be done? Yes. Can it be done cheap? No.

FYI, you can mill a head enough to get about 11:1 with stock 225 pistons/rods. I have done two at 10 - 11:1. If you mill head and block, the sky's the limit.

In my opinion,Maximum Boost by Corky Bell is the best book out there.

I feel that Forced Induction Performance Tuning by A. Graham Bell surpasses Corky Bell's book in most all regards. I own the former, Corky Bell's book, Turbochargers by Hugh MacInnes and a couple of others. Forced Induction Performance Tuning gives you the whole package, not just the turbo and fuel systems.

So with out a turbo how can I get my 6 to turn my dart into a mustang beater and challenge the new chargers? No Nitrous wanted. I have new 40 over pistons that were given to me and a 64 225 to start with. My 73 225 is knocking very hard on the #5 piston and burns oil. I believe its the rings. Engine still strong, but its a one barrel and I should be getting a 500cfm 2 barrel soon. i'm thinking to change gears to 3.91.
