Hi all in the new year we hope to make some head way on the AussieSpeed PP&R slant six alloy valve cover, we hope to have it available early next year & we are thinking of 2 styles. The Hurricane style with logo & a no logo style cover .If forum members wanted to put some input into the style of valve cover please let me know, as in fins,no fins, tall fins,short fins come on help us out . we have just about got some good shipping deals on volume orders so if a few guys want to get together & do a group buy on manifolds i am sure you can all save a few bucks. I am sure we can do the same type of deal on the valve covers when they are available. Also the instructions to fit the PP&R AussieSpeed SL6 Hurricane is on the AussieSpeed website in pdf & full view,

Sorry, Mark but my Offy cover just came in the mail! But, I have thought that a fabricated cover that is TIG welded would look good on a slant. It could be polished or anodized to suit the individual. I have seen these available for all kinds of v-eight engines but not for an in- line engine. Thanks for continuing to bring slant stuff to market!!

A desirable aluminium rocker cover would improve on the shortcomings of the Offenhauser item (which has no provisions for PCV, and no internal baffles like the stock cover). Here's what I'd want to see:

PCV provisions
Either a 25mm hole at the top rear for use with an ordinary Chrysler PCV valve grommet, or a swaged pipe nipple (can get dimension for you, send me a PM) at the rear inboard sidewall for use with an ordinary Chrysler PCV valve elbow. Baffle on the inside at this location to prevent sucking oil into the intake tract and facilitate crankcase gasflow

Breather provisions
A hole of approximately 40mm (here again, PM me for exact dimension) at the top front. Baffle on the inside at this location to prevent sucking oil into the intake tract and facilitate crankcase gasflow.

Oil cap provisions
A "cam-in" hole at the top centre to accept a standard twist-in oil cap. No baffle needed here.

Alternative arrangement
A 2-hole arrangement might be more cosmetically attractive than a 3-hole arrangement, in which case provide the unbaffled cam-in/twist-in oil cap hole at the top front, and the ~40mm plain hole at the top rear. This way, a Ford twist-in oil cap can be used. Such a cap (available plain, chromed, etc.) has an oil separator mesh in the cap body, and a 25mm hole in the top to accept a PCV valve grommet. PCV valve goes into this grommet, and the crankcase air inlet is via the breather installed at the rear. This has advantages (the oil cap is tethered by the PCV hose, so it can't be dropped or lost if left off).

Height considerations
The cover needs to be high enough inside to accommodate high-lift cams, but low enough outside (and with careful placement of the rear breather hole) so the cover can be used on (LH-drive) '60-'62 Valiants and Lancers with their large heater box mounted on the firewall and partially overlapping the rear of the rocker cover.

Gasket considerations
There is an absolutely beautiful rocker cover gasket available for the LA and B/RB V8s. It consists of thick, ridged silicone moulded around a steel core. These gaskets are quite leakproof, compatible with any rocker cover that fits those engines, and can be used again and again and again. It would be grand to have such a gasket available for the slant-6, but if that is not practicable, then I would still like to see some kind of improved rocker cover sealing built into an AussieSpeed cover. A groove and silicone O-ring arrangement, perhaps, or something like that.

Styling
Personally, I prefer a cast cover, not one that's pieced together from sheets of aluminium (or looks like it was pieced together) and welded. I figure if someone really wants a homemade-looking cover, he can...make one at home! Fins are cool but hard to keep clean. If they're present, I like nice deep ones like the (seldom-seen) Speco slant-6 rocker cover, but perhaps with a flat area centred on the cover for application of whatever lettering or decal the owner might want to apply. I have a fair number of slant-6 rocker cover decals and can measure and see what a reasonable dimension might be for such a decal pad.

Crinkle black finish with pollished fin edges and a Rectangular area between the filler and PCV for a LOGO Wouldnt mind that illoks like the Cast Mopar Performance one's

Go figure...as soon as we all get Offy valve covers on a group buy, some one is planning on making a better one. Oh well, such is life.

Looks like Dan covered all of the functional points.

As far as the look of the valve cover, I do like the fins...even though cleaning in between them is an issue. Or maybe a cast knock-off of the '60 valve cover with the raised fluting on top . I also like the idea of a smooth place for a decal.

One more suggestion, if you are going to polish them, please take the time to polish them nice. I was part of the Offy group buy and was a little dissappointed with the polish job on mine (Polishing swirls on the smooth areas, and they didn't even bother to polish down in the bottom of the bolt recesses). Maybe I'm just being too picky.

I would say that a timing cover with a plate to allow cam removal and cam timing adjustments without schmucking the oil pan rail gasket would be a MUCH higher priority than a valve cover.

Yep, Jim Cox had a couple of those covers at the Nats in 2005. While we were standing there, we realized the ones he had from Oz were for the hydro 80's motors - whoops.

I don't understand why this Offy VC has to weigh more than a stocker?? Haven't weighed it yet, but 3lbs more is my guess.

I guess you get either bling or performance but not both...

How about a place to mount a braket for CD ignition system coils? Al-la GM LS-1 right above the plugs or direct mount ciols.
