Depends on what turbo you're using and how much boost you're running, as well as how well you've tuned it. Shaker is running a 12 second A-body with an internally stock motor. My first effort at a turbo (a "remake" of Wayne's article, using his turbo and exhaust manifold) had quite a surge in torque but power fell off drastically at the top end. I never dynoed that setup as it had some major issues with the carb. I definitely plan to tune in my latest turbo slant six on a dyno and will report how much power it makes - unfortunately I had a few other projects cut in and it's been sort of on hold. The turbo I'm using is large enough to support 600 hp, and this is a power level you could get out of a turbo slant six.

You could either start with a horsepower goal, or by deciding how much time and money you want to commit to this project and once you have that define your horsepower goal. You'll need to select a turbo that matches your goals; grabbing a random turbo out of a junkyard can leave you with an engine that makes peak boost below the torque converter's stall speed, or more rarely, a turbo that won't even spool up unless you spray a shot of nitrous on there.

My stock engine made 259rwhp and 345rwtq. I'm using an 87 Buick GN turbo with about 21psi. I've since installed a copper head gasket and studs. The rod bearings looked good last winter after 80k (normal)miles and and another 1k of boost. Since I had the rods apart I put fresh ones in.

Main thing is to get a wide band and make sure your air fuel ratio is good.
