You have your math correct. I believe Chrysler said the largest a slant could be overbored was 40 thousandths, or 3.440 total. That being said, there have been several known successful race motores bored to 3.5. |

Stock bore is 3.400. Common oversizes are 0.010" (3.41"), 0.030" (3.43"), 0.040" (3.44", same bore as Chrysler's 2.2 and 2.5 litre 4-cylinder engines, opens piston availability options), 0.060" (3.46"). These, however, are not the only oversizes possible. By spending time in piston and ring catalogues, you can come up with almost whatever you want. Boring 0.10" over (3.50") makes a whole whackload of Chevrolet pistons available, but only particularly carefully cast engines can support such a large overbore; sonic checking is necessary. (...and then there's the mysterious "906" block casting from Argentina, specifically made to support very large overbores...) |

Argentina is a mystery - special over bore blocks, those funky cast headers |
