Post subject:  heads intechangable?

I have a 170cid with a bad head.Can I use the head from one of my 225cid in it's place? :idea:

As long as it's a mechanical top end you can.

Actually, all slant six heads interchange, so long as you use the rocker arm assembly and hardware for the specific head-style. Hydraulic heads will bolt to non-hydraulic blocks, but you have to use the rear-most bolt from the hydraulic rocker shaft in the hydraulic head. All heads interchange between 170, 198, and 225 blocks.

Thanks guys for the info. Now the only thing standing in the way of me having a running valiant is the torque specs

Sixty five ft-lbs for the head bolts, 25 ft-lbs for the rocker arm, and 10-12 ft-lbs for the manifold set to head. I ran a hydraulic head on my '73 engine, and had to swap the rocker arm and rockers from the '73 head to the '82 hydro head, using the rear bolt from the '82 head with the rocker arm.

Hydro head takes it's own valve cover and gasket too. :D
