This is going to be a long one, so bear with me. About a year ago, I finally got fed up with the Carter BBS, more specifically the low-quality "rebuilt" models from Autozone that I'd been going through every 3 years or so. I found an aluminum 2-barrel intake on ebay, and bought it with the intent of fitting to it a Weber 32/36 DGV that happened to be laying around the house. When the manifold arrived, I discovered to my horror that the bolt pattern from the Weber did not match the intake. What followed in the next week was, with the help of my dad, the biggest feat of redneck engineering I have ever accomplished. Here are some pictures.

The manifold attached to the engine:

One adaptor plate for the manifold:

And another for the carburetor:

Then make a sandwich!

The throttle linkage, cut from the Carter, and welded to a couple nuts with a set screw to hold it on the Weber's throttle shaft.

After some fine tuning, this setup seemed to run pretty well. I drove the car for a few months before parking it this past March. Fast forward to last week. I tried to drive the car and it won't accelerate past 15 mph. putting the pedal down makes it sputter and die. It sounds like the engine is getting too much air. If I hold the choke butterfly closed, the engine sounds beautiful even with the pedal down to the floor.

Any ideas? I've already replaced all the gaskets between the carb and the manifold. I can't find any vacuum leaks. Is this maybe a jetting problem? The 225 is a bigger engine than what this carb was originally used for.

The 36 DCD and the 38 DGAV DGAS would have been a better fit - but there is nothing wrong with your adapter plate - try to get an isolator between the carb and the spacer - keep it cooler prevent fuel boiling

That Said - the weber is a finer tuned beast as a rule as other carbs - might be an idea to take it of and clean it up - on the dcd there is emulsion tubes, air correction jets and so on - as well as the fuel discharge jet in the bottom of the float chamber some thing might have blocked :?

Dunno try to give it a once over with carb cleaner - the stuff in a spray can while it idle's
