Post subject:  What to use for air cleaner housing on Super Six setup?

Hi all,

I'm nearly done with the Super Six conversion on my '67 Barracuda, 225, and was wondering what everyone is using for an air cleaner housing. I took a chance and picked one up at last Fall Fling - found one from a '66 Charger 318, for $25. The diameter at the carb inlet looked correct, but I wasn't sure if the rest of it would fit. I've done a trial fitting, and it looks to be sitting a bit high. It may be okay - I still need to put some modeling clay on top and see just how close it is when I close the hood. In the meantime, I'm just curious what others have used. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have used the factory "Super Six" air cleaner, 318 air cleaners, and cheap chrome aftermarket air cleaner. The factory pieces are the best though.

Thanks, MiDi. Most of my weekends since early August have been spent detailing my engine compartment, cleaning, painting and putting everything back together after an engine and front suspension re-build. This is as good as it's ever going to look. Unfortunately, it's all downhill from here!

I tested the fit of my 318 air cleaner assembly by putting some modeling clay on top of it and closing the hood. There's only about 1/16" clearance on the driver's side, and I'm not sure that's going to be enough. I do have the Super Six air cleaner assembly that I got with the carb. It sits a lot lower, but it's kind of beat up plus it has lots of air pollution hoses and garbage coming off of it. I may try modifying it, or else keep looking for something more suitable. Thanks for the replies.

sandblast the super six housing and paint it, then hook up that "garbage" and get it working properly, it will increase performance and fuel economy.

I used the stock 1bbl air cleaner off my 67 Dart. It took some mods and welding to make it work but it look great. I wanted to keep my car close to stock as possible.
