Post subject: | 64 dart bad idle when warm |
I have a 1964 Dart with a stock rebuilt slant 6 running a Carter 1 bbl carb, good quality ignition wires, after market performance coil, and an electronic ignition conversion kit from Dodge. I originally posted this problem back in December last year. Since then I have had the carb rebuilt, had the intake checked for leaks and warpage with propane, and had the distributor infinitely adjusted. The engine runs well when cold, but starts to idle roughly when warm.It tends to smooth out if you are accelerating the engine. I have had a mechanic that I trust going over this problem for about a month and a half with no real success. Was something done wrong when the engine was rebuilt? Or am I just missing something simple? Any help or a reference for someone who really knows these engines in the Orlando, Florida area would be greatly appreciated. kustomkarma@yahoo.com |

Here are things I would check: 1) Valve adjustment, looser is better on idle quality. 2) Raw fuel getting into the oil (fuel pump or bad carb.) 3) Unstable timing from a worn distributor 4) PCV is letting-in to much air.
