Post subject:  T3/T4 Hybrid \6

Hey everyone long time listener, first time caller.....My original plan was to install a 440 in my 1970 SL6 Duster. The motor is fresh but I will need some stuff $$$$ to get it done. So as it stands I was reading some posts here about installing a turbo and I am really impressed with the results. So until I get some extra cash i'm gonna give the slant a shot.
This is what I have now

t3/t4 hybrid turbo .57 inlet .63 exh and a factory GN intercooler.

My SL6 has a factory super six intake and a freshly rebuilt 2bbl. Im thinking trying it with the 2bb . Then later swapping for an aftermarket intake/header and 4 bbl.

Does anyone know off hand what is the cfm of the 2bbl. I'm not sure if its a holly or carter. Will check later. But they should be close

Has anyone tried a t3/t4 on t \t before? If so how did it perform?

Thanks in advance I look forward to all of your expert advice.

The T3/4 hybrid turbos were developed for small engines running a lot of boost. Those little engines need the small exhaust turbine to power the compressor due to the lower off-boost exhaust volume. The T3 exhaust housing is too small and restrictive for all but the most conservative of 225s. The Grand National intercooler is not very good. It's just too small. If you want to use a 2bbl I would get an adapter to use a 350 CFM Holley list 7448. theturboforums.com has a lot of good tuning info for the Holley carbs, fuel supply, etc.

Seems like the recipes for GN hop ups us a T3 turbine housing for their staged levels pretty far.

I think a hybrid is a great way to go, and it's the way I plan to go. But some of that is because I'm a cheap SOB and I want to use a Chrysler turbine side so I don't have to deal with the additional cost of an external wastegate. Plan to step up to a .63 A/R aftermarket turbine housing, though.

The turbo matrix I have (turbonetics?) shows a hybrid up to 400 hp on a 4.0 liter motor.

Not sure on the compressor A/R, but I think your fine on the turbine side.

The trouble with Chrysler turbine housings is they have kind of an oddball flange - if you ever decide to splurge on a more expensive turbine, it will limit your options a bit.

A T3 turbine housing can have an exducer diameter from 1.898" to 2.229". A statement like "the t3 exhaust housing is too small" cannot be made without knowing what size it is. That said, I believe the smallest of T3 housings with the said .63 exhaust A/R would still work on a slant. I don't think it would be happy at higher rpms, but it should offer quick boost response.

3834spd, if you would measure the inducer of the compressor wheel and the exducer of the turbine, you could tell how your turbo will act within about 50hp and 500rpm.

simple solution gentlemen- twin *small chrysler boneyard* turbo setup, a cheap FMIC (Front Mount InterCooler) off ebag for around $90
