As some of you may know from the other /6 site, the 73 Scamp that I've been working on for 3yrs was hit badly in a crash <A HREF="http://www.slantsix.com/UBB/Forum16/HTM ... 14.html</A>
The insurance co. is offering only $2400, even after a folder full of receipts and pictures.

Their reason:

Even though I've put in all that money, the car is not worth much simply because it is a /6. "..if it was a v-8, it would be different, because people who like muscle cars like v-8's"

I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

The only way I can get them to change their minds is if I can prove that similar cars are worth more on the market.

IF anyone has recently sold or bought a built /6 car, or knows of one for sale, please give me the info (price, mods, condition), so I can submit it to the insurance.

Some info on my car: 73 scamp, 9.5:1 30over, balanced, ported head comp cams 252, 2-barrel alum intake, MP header, all PST polyurethane front end rebuild, sway bar, power disc brake conversion, 8.25 suregrip, BM shift kit, New paint, Body totally rust free. No bondo. Interior redone. alum centerline type wheels.

Here's a couple of pics: <A HREF="http://pages.moparpages.com/ystephens/k ... 20link.JPG <A HREF="http://pages.moparpages.com/ystephens/s ... amp.GIF</A>
THANK YOU for your help with this.

ALSO, if anyone has any ideas as to what else I can do, please let me know.

You can email me at <A HREF="mailto:save_the_scamp@ystephens.com">save_the_scamp@ystephens.com</A>

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I had to go through this a couple of years ago but thankflly not with my dart. First hold your ground until you have all the info you can get. You may be able to buy the car as part of the deal and salvage the parts. This is a very important topic and I would love to hear others ideas on how to insure our cars. I am going to look into a stated value policy from a collector car insurance company when I get my car on the road.

Good luck

Yeah, those stated value policies are definetly the way to go. Wish I would have thought of this sooner...

I don't know if this will help? But about 10 years ago I had a guy that totaled my wifes 64 Falcon. It was a totally rust free 2 owner car that drove like a dream. It wasn't worth a great deal but the insurance company only offered me $600. I told them to keep it! I went and got an old car collector's guide and looked up the price and for it's shape they listed $1200. The insurance company said no to &1200, so I kindly asked the adjuster to replace the car with one of equal value and condition.Of course they couldn't and they really didn't even want to try. So they offered me $1000 and I told them that if I could have the car and they paid the towing bill it was a deal.
So keep working all the angles. Tell them to replace it with one just like it ...etc. See what they'll do. Good luck.

Time is on your side, keep sending them "comps" on any car even close to your make and model. Keep sending them receipts, letters and anything else you can think of to show you are concerned about not getting "fair value" for the car.

Bottomline is that your claim is being handled by a insurance co. claims adjuster who's job it is to process / close as many claims as he/she can, quickly and with the least "pay-out". The longer your claim stays open, the more eger they get to close the claim. (their supervisor get's reports on their activity) Adjusters start low then will offer more $$ to get the claim closed, next, they will "send-out for an "independant apprisal" (they are paying so it's not real "independant")

If none of that works your claim gets "kicked-up" to a "claims specialist" (the office "hot-shot") next comes lies, dirty tricks, etc. be ready for anything, just don't accept a check,(they may just send you one) don't "sign-off" untill you get a fair settlement. (I once sent a settelment check *back* to an insurance co., regestered mail) The last thing they want is to go to court, especially if you can show that you have worked hard to get them information and to get a fair value for the car. The worst one of these deals I went through took 6 months, the settlement started at $500.00, I finally "signed-off" at 3,200.00 and got to keep the car.

Thanks to everyone for the input. It is greatly appreciated.

At least they got me in a rental car for now--I am sure they won't like paying for it indefinetly.

I think the "dirty tricks" have alrady begun--I was told to just take their offer right away, and that we could talk about how much more I wanted later....

Now If I could just find someone who has actually bought/sold a built /6 for a good price. I guess that most people are not eager to sell their babies, huh?
