US Slanters,

The Kearney, Nebraska all-American national Slant Six race is confirmed for 2009. As expected, it will be:

August 15-16, 2009

Mark your calendars and start saving your nickels!

I spoke with Mike Jeffrey, race host, on the phone last night and the track is excited to have us then. They will have a two day race weekend. The day of our race is to be decided, but will likely be Saturday.

Check out http://www.krpi.com/ for track info.

Please respond to this post if you are planning to attend!

Let's try to make this a big one and draw from the middle and both ends of this big 'ol country!

Thanks,

Lou

I'm gonna do everything within my power to get the Swinger drivable and make it to the race for a pass down the track. If I can't, I'm tempted to make the trip in my '08 Mazda, but it would be considerably less fun...

I can't promise I'll have my Chally ready to run, but I do plan on driving over to visit, if nothing else.

Looks like I'll have to get a motel room.

Speaking of, where's everybody staying? Should we all try for the same hotel?

I was looking at the Comfort Inn...

Vince,

Maybe you could check into lodging?

It could be we could camp at the track too.

Maybe Comfort Inn would give a discount for our "racer group."
Let us know if you get prices from them.

Roger,

We hope your Chal is done and you can come race with us! If no car, then I'm sure you'll have a blast as a spectator too.

Thanks,

Lou

I'll be happy to look into hotel pricing and possible group rates.

Normally, I'd be happy/content to camp, but I've got a buddy (non-car guy) who's volunteered to make the trip with me, and after a 10 hour drive with no A/C in the middle of August, I think he will have earned a night in a decent hotel... ;)

Guess I'll start working on T-shirt designs, too, if everybody's still interested. Just need to squeeze in the time...

I don't know, Lou........the hotel chains may have heard the phrase, "We are the people your mothers warned you about"

I'll see what I can do about getting it close enough to pass tech.

So, how many rooms are we talking about for a possible "Racer's Discount"? Who's interested?

Post subject:

Vince,

Too early to tell, but 10 rooms is a likely number. Might not be enough for a discount, but may as well ask, and about AAA or general track discounts.

I added Chris (CARS) and Roger (maybe) to the list above.

Thanks,

Lou

My lovely wife Becky would like to know if anyone is bringing their wives?

Any more on the hotel rooms? I would be cool with tenting at the track too, doesn't really mater to us.

Needless to say, my wife declined the opportunity to travel 1200 miles round trip in an unair-conditioned Dart in the middle of August. With a new baby. No sense of adventure... :)

My wife is gathering info on groups rates in her spare time. She's a great haggler... I hope to let you guys know details this week.

Alright. That's fine. At least she is trying (unlike the rest of us  )
