Post subject:  Super Six Exhaust manifold

Some dude on ebay is selling Slant Six "2bbl exhaust manifolds". Is there a difference between the Ibbl & 2 bbl?? If there is, then that is fine. If there is not, then he is ripping people off!

I'm not aware of any differences. Get and check some part numbers. BTW, some truck slant 6 exhaust manifolds are nodular iron. I'm not sure what that means. I don't know where I found that information. Maybe from a service bulletin?

I'm almost positive that there is no difference in a 1bbl slant 6 exh. manifold, and a "Super 6" exh. manifold. Sounds like a scam to me.

"Nodular" is a metallurgical term, referring to the shape of carbon particles in the cast iron, as opposed to the sharp-edged flakes found in more common varieties. Nodular is better for a lot of things, but more expensive to produce.

This is interesting. Does anyone know what the advantages were or how to tell the difference? Also, what trucks used this manifold? Could this manifold better handle the stresses imposed by a turbo?

Seems to me I found something about this in my service bulletins. However it would take me hours to find it again. I'll take a look someday when I have time. I think it carried a different part number and was recommended as a "cure" for manifolds that were breaking???

Chrysler made a 2 barrel Slant Six manifold in the late 70's, put mostly on Volares and Aspens. It was called the Super Six manifold, and is pretty much a direct bolt-on to any slant sixes of that era and earlier. It can replace a single barrel manifold and carburetor, and is a nice upgrade, in fact. I believe they made both cast iron and aluminum versions, but the cast iron is more desireable. Forgot to mention that these Super Six manifolds are an easy pick-up at your local junkyard or similar, for around a hundred dollars or so. Just look for the two barrel carburetor and take the entire manifold, intake and exhaust, as well as the carburetor and everything in between the gas pedal and the manifold. Linkages and such are done differently, so it is best to have all the parts to make the swap. Also make sure to get an iron one if possible, as they are less troublesome.

Nodular iron has fewer internal stress razors because of the nodules vs. flakes, and should be able to handle stress better.

Post subject:  Super Six air cleaner

My '75 Dart Sedan has the hood latch on the outside, and one night when my friend was drunk he popped the hood and took the stock air cleaner cover. He forgot what he did with it, so he went to the scrapyard to get me a new one. He returned with the air cleaner manifold that says "Chrysler Super 6" on it. The manifold itself (which was bigger) didn't fit under the hood so I've got the Super 6 cover pushing down on the smaller stock air cleaner itself, while the manifold sits in my basement. Whether or not this helps anyone I have no idea, but it's a funny story.
