Post subject:  Open Road Racing Courseworker Article

An article I wrote is now included on the BIG BEND OPEN ROAD RACE website. Look for my formerly appaloosa Valiant, and click on the link beside it.

"How to be a Courseworker" is an attempt to condense information from the courseworker meetings and things I've picked up doing the job. The purpose was to help new volunteers get an understanding of what's expected and how to enjoy it. There are some issues with the formatting, but nothing bad. The photos are mine, too.

It's specific to BBORR (and the defunct Road Runner Open Road Race) but a lot of it applies to various races.

Very nice, clearly communicated, article. I would love to run one of these someday, or even just coursework!

Have fun,

Lou

Lou, and anyone else who's interested, COME ON DOWN! Watch, work, or race. It's a fun event to work, and they even give courseworkers a T-shirt and goodie bag. What more do you need?

I'd love to make a run in it, even as a navigator. Long-term, I want to run the Valiant in the Street Rod class.

A coworker has some experience fabricating for offroaders, and has expressed an interest in building and driving a car for BBORR. If he does, I'll probably volunteer to be on his build and race crew.

Now, if I could just correct my spelling of "courseworker" on the thread title.

Someday I'll either enter or help with one of these events...

Haven't read the article yet, but intend to soon.

You bet'cha. :D

I read the article this weekend. Very nice!

So many people want to get into racing (of all types), but they think they have to build a car, get licensed, etc., etc.,.. And it keeps them from ever doing anything.

Helping out in any racing event gets you in close to the action.

Thanks for taking the time to write that article. I've saved it for future reference.

Truth be told, I'm taking notes on how to prep a car, how to do the GPS and hand-timing, etc.
