I just can't figure this out. The fuel lines are located in the same place as they were when it ran okay, so I don't think it's that. So far, I've replaced the condensor, the distributor rotor, the coil, and today...the fuel pump. Still it's doing the same thing, it gets warm, the fuel in the carb boils and it dies. Almost forgot, it's a 63' Valiant with the carter carb. |

You could have dirt around the needle valve inlet to your float bowl, allowing to much gas to get into the carb. I had a simular experience with the Holley 1920 on my engine. I also rerouted the fuel line up and over the valve cover to keep it away from the water pump and manifold heat. Eric W ecwfury@webtv.net |

You can use the later thicker carb to manifold gasket and even the metal heat shield to keep some heat away from the carb. (late 70 - 86 SL6 ) Also check to see if the heat riser valve is stuck closed, that will put too much heat to the bottom of the intake manifold. DD |

What area of the country are you in? Are you having warm weather and you still have winter grade gasoline in the tank? Winter formulations of gasoline will do what you describe. I have fuel boiling problems with my 1976 Valiant, even in cool weather. Dang thing boils and boils until the carburetor is dry. Then the next day I have to crank and crank to get fuel pumped up to the carb again. Or if I try to restart hot engine 10 minutes later the engine is flooded. Part of my problem is an old thick gasket that is made of a material that conducts heat to the carburetor. I need to switch back to one that has more insulating qualities. cfield@ll.net |
