I know about the aussie gaskets for the intake/exhaust, but what about a MLS re-useable head gasket ? or re useable valve cover and oil pan gaskets, I know fel-pro makes the blue reuseable ones for most apps. does any aftermarket make them for the slant ? it gets irratating and expensive,

Also when it comes to parts purchasing, is it better to get generic, or name brand ? I know there are the stainless valves from engbldr on ebay, along with 340 dual dampner springs, and for the price, it would almost be a no brainer, but would the mopar 340 springs be any better quality or are you just paying for the name ? and what about parts store springs, valves. Bottom line I am just looking out to make sure I invest my money wisely the first time around and dont get cheap/ inferior parts.

Good (modern) gaskets are on my "it'll never happen but it's nice to dream about" wish list. One-piece steel-core ribbed-silicone oil pan, timing, and valve cover gaskets, MLS head gasket, and all that fun stuff.

I'm totally cheap. I usually get Fel-Pro gaskets from Napa and I have had good luck reusing head and valve cover gaskets that aren't obviously damaged. I have reused head gaskets up to five times, and more with valve cover gaskets. Oil pan and timing cover gaskets I have never had to change that often.

I don't know why Felpro isn't thought of as a good brand anymore, but I have had good luck with their gaskets.

I can't help with the other stuff though.

One trick I've learned from my Harley wrenching days is to glue gasket to valve cover and don't put sealer/glue/goop on other side so gasket comes off with valve cover. You just need to be careful pulling it off. Just don't over torque bolts and you should be able to reuse at least a few times. Just make sure the gasket looks ok before reassembly. A head gasket I would just bite the bullet and buy a new one. The old copper ones you could heat up (re anneal??????) and reuse. I'm not sure if that is the right term or not.

Like Reed, I've never had a problem with Fel-pro...all the ones I have bought are still made in USA. I've also have good luck with the other brands like McCord and Victor-Reese.

We have Payen ones over here - works quite well - another trick with gaskets that are removed from time to to time is to grease the surface lightly - It sure helps on carb gaskets, and me tappet cover one has worked fine so far - will user the glue to tappetcover trick.. will minimize the pain to keep the gasket lined up.

On the inlet exhaust side....what side faces the block? metal or fiber?
