ok in my dodge truck (318 bbd) i found out it was plugging the vacuum ports for the charcoal cannister purge with little bitty bits of charcoal. is there anyone that makes charcoal cans or is there a way to keep it from pulling charcoal into the carb? i took the can out and plugged up the tank vent with a bolt and the carp port with a piece od hose and a bolt

Charcoal canisters are still in use today so they are being made. I'd grab one from a late model wrecked vehicle. You could put a fuel filter in line with the charcoal canister and carb as a stop-gap measure.

The fuel tank needs to be vented.

so is anyone making them new for my truck or do you think it would just be a case of just finding one with the same number of connections and make it work?

The filter's a good stopgap measure, but charcoal into the lines is a good indication the can is dying/dead/done. New cans specifically for Mopars of that era aren't serviced any longer by the aftermarket, but all charcoal cans work the same - you just need one with the right number of fittings. How many fittings does yours have, and how are they labelled? One "TANK", one "CARB" or "BOWL"…any others? Let me know and I'll try and point you to some likely candidates. See this post for general info.
