New to the slant 6 thing. Want to run one in a vintage OVAL track car. I see most posters are drag racers or street car guys. Nothing wrong with either.......... My questions are:

1 what problem(s) -- if any-- would be created if the motor was "stood up" like a "normal" inline 6?

2 I know the oil pick-up would have to be modified--- no problem

3 A tapered spacer would have to be fabricated to make the carb sit level-- no problem

4 Trans and linkage would be turned to left -- again no problem for
me

So there it is--------- just trying to make a bent 6 go in circles to the left instead of straight ( trying to get weight off RF)

I dont see the point? I get that you want to keep weight off the RF.The way the slant is set in the engine bay is pretty much ideal for equal weight dist.,once you factor in the driver.

I have no experience building a circle track car,but I dont think you would gain anyting trying to un-slant the slant.

Seems to me there was a 50s race car or special that had an upright slant.

\It would seem a manifolding nightmare.....mebbe port efi ....

Circle track cars usually run about 53% left side weight. That is why I want to take weight off RF. Thanks for your reply

I think I would offset mount it rather than stand it up.........

see question #3. A tapered "spacer" , "mount" , or wharever you want to call it can be easily machined to make carb sit level. MUCH easier (and cheaper) than EFI. Although it would create a up-draft style of intake (kind of) .Not worried about exhaust(headers) Will be building my own anyhow.

Offset mounting will create severe driveshaft alingment problems

Not really....

You just need to align/think in 3D rather than 2D....

You can use a rear axle with offset pinion....Ford Explorer 8.8 comes to mind.

Every solid axle 4x4 font diff is offset.

I think a side draft carb on your upright motor might work

So, if I move the motor and trans. to the left say, 8" I won't have any driveshaft u-joint problems? Is that what you are saying?

Am building a vintage stock car using a Late Model Stock chassis. Car has a Quick change rear.

In one Valiant-powered Lotus Eleven , they mounted the engine at an angle to the centerline, in part for footwell clearance in a right-hand-drive car. The block was also a stressed part of the chassis.
So, you can do all sorts of things if you really, really want to ...

Use CV joints in place of the U-Joints

Always thought a slant would be fantastic in Britain in circle track racing. They "go fast and turn right!"
