This is applicable to slants as well

My 318 uses the 4 pin chrysler orange box - the coil gets very hot - and after idling a while you can not get the car to start if is has cooled down it fires first try

The Efi works 100% just no fire when hot

Is this high heat and no starting while hot indicative of a failed ballast or sick ignition or both?

OH YES while it was idling I touched the transistor on the orange box - it shocked the $#@! out of me

Am considering fitting HEI with a MSD blaster coil

Getting a shock from the transistor on the ICU is normal. Don't touch it!

Coil heating up probably means internally-shorted coil drawing too much current. Measure primary and secondary resistance and compare to FSM specs.
