Did the 64 valiant come with duel exhaust as standard or optional equipment. Mine has it but not sure if it was modified by previous owner. Secondly, is there really any advantage to duel exhaust if you are using a the stock manifold set up? thanks for the input...Mark |

Stock exhausts were single and skinny on '64's. Splitting the exhaust after the manifold wouldn't do as much good as splitting the manifold a la Dutra Duals. Just going to a single 2 1/4" or so tube after the stock manifold would help, and would be simpler than a reverse Y. |

IMHO- Dual exhaust is only good for adding weight to your car(when it comes to an inline motor) or if you really want the 'look'. No gain/loss in performance. The ideal set up would be to split the exhaust(Headers,Dutra Duals) then Y pipe them into a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2" pipe all the way out the back(or out the side for a mean look and sound!) Caution exhausts that dump under the car or exit before the rear tire can be dangerous. |

Thanks for the responses. I am not building a mean machine here. Just a restore with a little extra pop via a mild cam and upgrade to super six. If the dutra duels provide me some advantage as to effeciency of the engine, meaning a bit more power without losing fuel economy, then ill consider the expense. I appreciate the help...Mark..p.s. this is a 170 |

Before I installed the headers I split my exhaust. It sounded good throught the dual turbo mufflers. When I did the headers it was pretty loud. I then added a a crossover pipe. |

I have Dutra Duals that go into one pipe, then into a glasspack, and exit before the rear wheels. |

...Depends Local tests have shown that long runner small primaries, coupled with an X pipe dual setup makes more power & torque through the range on inlines an V's Single systems coupled with headers - better top end and both HP an TQ have peaks higher up in the RPM range. That said on an unmodified engine....it is a huge waste, ads weight - If you do not have the induction system to support the exhaust.. rather leave it be |

Before i put a 2bbl on my 198 my best MPG was 29.5 with 3:23's. Most of the time it averaged 25.5. That was with a cracked manifold and split duals. |
