All, I have a 78 Volare that I am rebuilding the front end on. What is the best way to remove the Pivot cushion bushing? I was attempting to drill out the welds but it seems that the welds were quite sizable on the first one that I drilled out. I am concerned that I have done too much damage to be able to reuse the bracket (i.e. clamshell). I do not want to do the same damage to my second bracket before I find a source on replacements. Does anyone have a good method for removal? I have searched and it seems that most have been able to drill it out. Am I doing it wrong? Does anyone have tips? Lastly, does anyone have a source on a replacement (new or used). I am in Houston and I have not yet found a good yard with older cars. And, I could not find a source for the Mopar Part# 4186828. I got mine from the dealer a couple years back; seems the local warehouse had 4 left; I bought all 4; (but no mention was made about them being the only ones left in the whole Chrysler warehouse "chain") There has been some very recent talk about those very bushings; I don't remember where; might have been Moparstyle. |

This question is referring to the bushing that ties the torsion bar to the k-member. The bracket looks like a bigger version of a universal style sway bar bushing bracket. I believe this bushing is different on the l-shaped torsion bars than it is on the straight ones. I think that I got the part number from moparstyle. I have not been able to find a source for that part number. Thanks for your help. Tom |

Dan, Thanks. I did email Johnny about his bushings. Using the polybushings.com inserts is the route that I want to take on this. Johnny said that he was able use a cold chisel to separate the welds. This seems like it would really mangle up the bracket. Eitherway, I still need a new shell to replace the one I drilled holes through. Has anyone else been successful just chiselling through the welds on the clam (or know where to find replacements)? Tom |

I did end up getting the welds broke and the bushings off of the bar. But, my new issue is getting the end bracket off of the bar. I would like to get the polybushing for the torsion bar end. This bushing is not split. I think that i have to remove the bracket to get the new bushing on. Does anyone here know how to get the bracket off the bar? I drilled out the rivet and knocked it out of the hole. The bracket will spin (lots of resistance) but it will not slide off. I do not understand how it is held on the bar (aside from the rivet). Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks for the help, Tom |
