Like the title says...will it work? My concern is getting enough oil to the lifters, even when using the hydro rockers.

Yup; I did it on my Dad's old '82 Gran Fury; kept the hydro lifters used a drool tube head when the machine shop told me the OE '82 head was (supposedly) cracked. Only issue I had was the very back bolt on the rocker shaft, don't remember which one I used (hydro or drool tube) and it was a matter of drilling the rocker shaft so the bolt I needed would work. That's been 20+ years ago. (but fixed the car with what I had laying around)

we had that car a few years after that, Dad drove it 75 miles a day for work all the while, 'til the front converter overheated and caught the car on fire! but in the meantime that car ran really well and got GREAT mileage. I remember my 2 brothers going to Wisconsin in that car, after I put the drool head on there and getting like 28 MPG. (or so they said; I didn't go with them) Kept the stock '82 1 bbl alum intake and carb on there.

I gotta get caught up on your thread but if you don't mind my asking what happened to the old head?
I take it the problem was not one from reusing that head gasket?

The head that came on my '83 motor developed a burnt exhaust valve, and now my spare '82 head I'm running now has also developed a miss..both on the #5 cylinder. Reed and others feel its the aluminum intake...now so do I. Just wonder why it decided to start now, because when the engine was installed, it ran smooth. Oh well, here we go again! Thanks Don.
