I am trying to do the HEI conversion. I am just wondering what vehicle the distributer is out of that has the vaccume advance right on the side of it. Why cant you just use the old distributer too? Thanks. |

The HEI article gives suggestions for where to get the correct distributor. You can't use a points-type distributor, because it will not trigger the HEI module. You can only use a lean-burn distributor (w/o vacuum advance) if you're planning on keeping the lean burn system, which is not a wise choice for driveability, fuel economy, or performance. |

Can you just tell me what year I can get the distributer I need so I can just go get one. I've already found the ballast resistor and coil with harness, I just need to know what distributer / year / model I need to get the distributer off of. |

You might want to call and verify, that distributer has a vacumm advance. PS: Cardone does not have a good reputation for quality. |

Yup, Cardone's stuff is junk. That might be why the HEI article specifically points at a source of new distributors rather than pointing at a source for cruddy "remanufactured" ones. |

sorry if i was a jerk. Its just frustrating reading an article that doesnt point to a specific distributer that your able to use on a /6. The phone / email is okay, but if you just want to go to your local wreck yard and pull one its kinda hard with no vehicle. Especially if your a novice /6 tech like myself. |

If you are trying to convert from lean burn all you have to do is order all the parts from an older or non lean burn vehicle with vacume advance. I went to a junk yard and stripped the entire ignition system out of a 76 dart for $35 and it works great. |

I found a junk yard around my area that I am going to hit up this weekend. I have a distributor # too so I can match it up if I cant find anything there. |
