| Post subject: | 84 Lean Burn Six |
Hi, This is my first post. I have a project car that I would like to power with a slant six. I have a local find which is out of an 84 PU and is the "lean burn" engine. What can anyone tell me about this engine and how does it differ from one that is not "lean burn" Thansk, Troyaero |

Welcome on the board! The troublesome lean burn equipment can easily be removed and a conventional carburetor and distributor installed; that's the only difference between lean burn and non-lean-burn engines of any given year. What kind of project car are you working with? |

Thanks for the welcome. I read several articles are replacing the lean burn distributor, etc. but it souned that there might be some mechanical changes other than spark that needed to take place. One article eluded to there being the 2 bbl carb on it also. This engine I am looking at is a 225 out of a 84 or 85 PU. I forgot which year now. Should I be looking for the 2 BBL carb or not necessarily? Thanks, Troyaero |

I have an 81 W150 with originally the lean burn ignition. When I replaced the carb with a 500 cfm edelbrock I had no use for the lean burn computer and it was messing with my timing because it is connected to the distributor. I went to the junk yard and ripped out the entire ignition system from a 76 dodge dart and put it in mine. Works prefect. |

One additional thing that no one has mentioned is your engine is a Hydrolic cam engine. So when most of us talk about our solid lifters yours are not. Frank PS welcome to THE BEST slant six site on the net. |
