Post subject:  Manual to auto carb

I changed the transmission from a stick to an auto in my 65 Dart. The engine is a late 70's slant six and the trans is from a 74 Swinger. I am having trouble getting the kickdown linkage to connect to the carb. It seems there is something missing on the carb. Do I need to swap the entire carb or is there a part I can just add to it?
Thanks in advance.

There's no hookup difference between carbs used on auto-trans cars and those used on manual-trans cars. However, '60-'66 A-body cars (except '65-'66 with factory A/C) use rod-operated throttle rather than cable type. If you're trying to use the '70s carburetor on the '65 car, that's going to be the problem. There is a cable-to-rod linkage adaptor, but it only fits on '67 and earlier carburetors. How about using the '65 carburetor?

I am using a 70 something carb on the engine since the engine is a 79?. I guess I need to see a picture of the carb to kick down set up. Anyone have a pic of that?

The factory service manual for your '65 will show the transmission throttle pressure linkage and how to adjust it. The throttle pressure linkage to the transmission does not land on (connect to) the carburetor.

Okeh, there's your problem. Because your '65 car has rod-operated throttle, you need to use a '65 (or other compatible year) carb.

Or custom install a later accelerator pedal... It's relatively easy to do, and parts are cheap.

I'm running a 1976 2-bbl on my 63 - I found a gas pedal from a 1970 Dart with a cable, not too hard at all to convert.
