GM HEI is a pretty good swap.

With all the cars they've made, GM just about HAD to get something right somewhere along the way ...

My '86 Suburban with HEI is beat up, ugly, and not particularly efficient. It is, however, reliable and versatile. It's my "in case of emergency" vehicle.

Off-topic: What part of Southern Oklahoma? My wife has kin around Lawton, and we lived there in the late 80's.

Well, Howdy, neighbor! I grew up in Wichita Falls, was assigned to Fort Sill '87 - '90, and used to shoot with some people in Duncan.

No cannon cocker here. 91C (was 73A) - Missile Materiel Management Officer. Conehead for short. I was an Ordnance staff officer at the Field Artillery Center and School back then. Spent most of my time figuring out how to support all the whiz-bang stuff the artillery guys wanted to buy.

Cool! Thanks for keeping the systems running.

I spent the entirety of my career in 105mm, targeting, or target acquisition jobs. I loved the wildlife refuge, and southwestern OK in general. Great thunderstorms there in the summer.

Howdy back  !

Re: shooting in Duncan......SCRAP (Stephens County Rifle and Pistol) club by any chance? I let my membership lapse with those guys - I miss that range!

I was an Ordnance man by the way - member of the last class of Fort Dix mechanics trained to work on jeeps  .

Yep, I've shot with the SCRAP guys, and they shot High Power Rifle with us at the NWTF&S range near Wichita Falls. Good people.

Jeeps, you say? When I was a brand new second lieutenant, my company's last Jeep came back from third shop. The Battalion Commander ordered us not to drive it - it was to be turned in. The Jeeps and Dodge pickups were being replaced with M1009 and M1008 CUCV's. The HHC still had some Jeeps for a while.

We had M151A1 Jeeps until a month before Desert Shield! We got Hummers for Desert Shield and had to get some "train the trainer" classes to learn how not to destroy them.
