trying to get at my timing chain. . . .
put a harmonic balance puller on my balancer. it got so hard that i snapped the center bolt of the puller.
further examination makes me think there is a step inside the center hole of the balencer. have i got that rite? maybe i was pulling against myself?

Can you get a photo of the front of the balancer?

The puller should be pushing against the end of the crank. It should come off much easier than what you describe.

Maybe this will help:

Balancer: Some of them look a bit different as far as spokes, but the inside surface is the same where it presses onto the crank.

The crank snout is pretty much the same on all of the engines:

Sorry for the fuzzy photo.

Hope that helps!

I install a large "allen" bolt of the correct size, and push against that. That way I make sure the threads in the crank, don't get messed up. The small size of the bolt head, fits inside the damper.

thanx for the fotos.
i haven't look direct into the pulley. i'm in a A108 van so i'm working from the side.
i did think of trying to use the crank bolt to pull against.

i'll get a new puller and give it another go. . . .

Did you confirm that there's no crank bolt buried in there? Some slants have 'em, some don't, and they can be covered with muck and grime and hard to see...

Post subject:  no bolt remains

no bolt left-overs in there.

it came off 2day. i soaked it in PB blaster last nite. a new puller today and it came off like it should have yesterday.

the timing chain was ready to come out. it was long enuff to be dragging on the inside of the cover. and i was thinking that noise was the water pump. . . . .

thanx for the wisdom guys!
