| Post subject: | Crank Journal Sizes? |
Got a crank that was reground from the machine shop. One journal IMO is way off. I was told it was .030 under. Yet there is a stamp on one of the counter weights .020. All are really close to each other. Just wanting to make sure I have the right bearings before I drop it in to the engine to plastigauge it and open bearings that I may not need. |

Never mind! Found some books and looks like the mains are OK rods are .060 under. So I think I paid for a POS that needs the journals welded and ground. Gonna have to recheck my numbers. |

Rechecked, the rods are .060. I don't think they make bearings that size. |

Rug Talk to Zilla or Doc they have both found them if I remember correctly. There was a discussion on this a couple of years ago. It might have been in one of the engine build threads??? Frank |

Must have been Doug, I don't remember ever even looking for a .060 under bearing. I am pretty sure a decent machine shop could find them though. Rug, the crank in my good motor is a Car Quest reground kit. IIRC I paid around $200 for it and it has been indestructible. |

When I took mine down to the shop they told me one main needed welding and reground as it was @ .060. Price was $70+$70 for the one journal. The rest would finish up @ .030. Luckily they had a crank that was not claimed for $70. Makes me mad that I drove 25 miles one way to get this. They didn't do my head. I did have them do a friend's head. They guy that did the valves was a smart ass. |

Personally, I wouldn't accept a .060 crank, unless I specified, that is what I wanted. That said, Sealed power engine parts catalog shows a .060 rod bearing 6-2375CA60 "unplated & resizeable". Main bearings 4092M only to .050. This is for the forged crank. The cast crank has rods and mains listed to .040 only. |
