what should i use for my slant six rocket cover gasket cork high temp rubber or something else help i been bye mates but i want someone who knows wat there on about to help it was a cork one when i took it off |

either one will work well if the valve cover flange is flat and you do not tighten the crap out of the mounting bolts |

I use the rubber ones and some white grease........ Can reuse that way. |

I prefer the rubber over cork. They last alot longer and will reseal after a few valve re-lashing sessions. |

Is that so even when you don't use white grease on them as well?I did some research and bought the rubber gasket over the cork however I didn't use anything on my rubber gasket after I did my valves last week... :shrug: |

I use just a little synthetic oil and the seat fine. Grease would work just as well. |

Grease or oil is fine. Dry they might stick........... |

I have reused a rubber gasket many times over without any lube. Maybe I just got lucky? Looked in good shape every time it came off, so it just went back on. |

Is there a preferred brand? The last one I used was a "CORTECO" from the NAPA store and the tabs were off a little bit. Not so far off I got the wrong part but like the mould or die was off a little bit. (Off far enough that only two of the four tabs lined up making installation a bit of a challenge.) |
