| Post subject: | 14" wheel fit with wilwood brakes |
I'm converting my 65 valiant over to front discs. I was considering buying the wilwood brake kit because I want to keep the small bolt pattern. I found measurements on the wilwood site for checking to see if my 14" rallies will fit. My question is is there anyone that has this brake kit on their car with 14" rallies? It looks like I might have to go to 15" wheels to fit these brakes or find the kelsey hayes sbp setup. |

If you have to change wheels to fit your brakes you might as well go BBP. you'll thank yourself later. I wish I did |

I am using Wilwood 10.75 X .800 disc brakes on the front of my 62 with 14" SBC Rally wheels. Clearance is not an issue but the center hole is too small for the wilwood hub. You do not want to mount steel wheels directly to the aluminum hub either. I enlarged the center hole by going round and round with a 1/2" stone in a 1/4" grinder. It takes a while but you should wind up with a larger concentric hole. Better do the same with your spare. I used a 1/4" spacer with SBC to protect the hub and move the wheel out some which minimizes the grinding you have to do. If you switch to the BBC wheels they have a bigger hole in the middle that will clear the hub but it will probably be so big that it will no longer register on the hub properly. It is always best that wheels are located by a snug fitting center hole but many seem to get away with only the studs doing the locating. I think I got some of the first wilwood hubs with the 4 & 4.5" bolt pattern. It is possible that they have changed the hub so that the SBC requires less custom fitting. |
