I'm replacing the clutch, bearing, and housing (replacement kit). I forgot to mark where the old housing aligns with the flywheel as described in the repair manual. How can I assure that the new housing will be oriented correctly on the flywheel? Is this critical? |

You are replacing the bellhousing? What's wrong with the original? The bellhousing is located to the engine with 1/2" dowel pins. It will go back on in the same position as it was previously. Checking the bellhousing to block alignment (bellhousing to crank actually) is described in the factory service manual. There are offset dowels available to correct misalignment. |

I think he means where the clutch assy lines up on the flywheel. I was reading about this last night in the FSM as I have my own trans job to do. It shows putting a punch mark on flywheel and clutch housing to orient the pieces on reassembly. My guess is that if you are using new clutch parts is doesn't matter. But I don't know that to be a fact. So I am interested in an answer to this question too. Thanks, CE |
