Working on my d150. trying to get the idle fixed. Right now to fix it I adjusted the throttle a little bit out so it would idle better. What it is doing is idleing real low .. like 300-400rpm really good, and then all of a sudden it will cut out to probably 50-100rpm and then bounce right back up to normal idle. There is a popping in the exhaust too, but I'm pretty sure its a valve problem. they're either wore out or burnt.. not too sure havent checked anything yet. Any suggestions?

300-400 rpm is about half what the idle speed should be. Set it to the correct speed and see if it gets smoother.

Why did you want the idle that slow anyway? Is this some old school way of diagnosing something or were you adjusting the valves hot and noticed this behavior?

Thanks,

well, it was just a guess 300-400 rpm. I'm not sure exactly how low its running. I got it to run a bit better. Had a vacuum leak. Got that squared away, but it still just doesnt idle right. I think it probably has something to do with the Vacuum transducer circuit but hey ; Thats why I am going to be doing the HEI conversion any how. Probably going to pull the head off soon and replace the valves, seals, retaining clips, springs. Probably going to port the head too. Not sure, but I'de like to get the idle fixed before I get into it.

It just could be a little glow from the carbon build up. I run water injection so that makes for a crisp idle. Run some SeaFoam through it. That will clean it out too. Put a little down the carb while running and the rest in the tank. Great stuff, but the price keeps going up.

Take a look at my plug pictures posted on the red link below my name. Those NGK UR4 platinum tips have over 55,000 on them gaped at .045 running the Orange ECU, MSD Blaster2 coil and MSD .85 ohm resistor in place of the stock 4 wire.

In the picks you can see my water bottle in front of the coolant overflow tank. The line comes in just above the wagon wheel on the carb about half way up the carb body where the EGR hockey puck was plugged into. It only draws water after 2000 rpm on up. None below 2000 rpm.
