| Post subject: | O/S Valves for 225 |
Is there any benefit to running the oversize 1.70 I & 1.44 E valves on a near-stock street 225? The head currently on the engine is stock with no porting, the cam is an Isky solid with 256 dur. & 425 lift, the induction is a Offy 2X1bbl with Holley 1920 carbs, and a Clifford dual outlet header. All else is stock engine & drivetrain wise. Opinions? |

With your mods it makes sense to install larger valve and port the head especially if your valves leak at all or you do not have hardened exhaust valve seats. I warmed up my '67 225 with a ported head cut to achieve a true 8.5:1 compression ratio, 390 Holley on an Offy manifold and 2 1/4" exhaust. Stock cam, stock exhaust manifold. I took over 2 seconds off the 1/4 mile elapsed time. |

Must remember head was designed for 170 ci motor and wasn't changed with bigger displacement motors. |

Sodium filled valves aren't readily available and are no longer used on heavy-duty and equipment applications to due to the fact they can cause someone grief if regrinding them. They're great for what they do but rarely you find someone working with them. I suggest oversized valves others suggested here would be your best bet. |
