Ok, while driving the dart again today I noticed the trans went through the gears kinda fast.

When driving the car under normal throttle it shifts to second at about 15-20mph then to 3rd at 25-30mph. It shifts soft too. is this right?

It probably always did this, but didnt really pay attention before.

On monday ill take it out again and drive it under heavier throttle to make sure it wasnt just a fluke thing, see if it shifts at higher RPMs

When SHOULD it shift under full throttle, 1st gear should take me to around 30-35mph right?

And if this is a problem how much could this cost to fix?

I would say that is about right for the shift points. How does the fluid look and smell? Do you have a FSM? If so look at the 904 trans section and do the linkage adjustment if you think its off.

that sounds right to me. if you want to delay the shifting, adjust the kickdown linkage so it's farther back (towards the transmission).

The fluid is a light pink, its a little low though, need tp bump it up where it should be. and it smells fine.

and thats good to hear its fine lol
I was just used to the Duster when you actually could feel the shift. and it didnt shift into second until 20-25mph, then 3rd 40mph on a steady throttle. I liked that set-up better, i might burn more gas, but it'll probably get up and go a little better.

i prefer later shifts as well. i set up the slant for that. mess with the kickdown linkage till you find a setting you like.

Use your FSM to adjust the line pressure. This will help to increase the snappieness of you shifts.

I always thought pulling the kickdown back towards the front of the car delayed the shifts? I could be wrong though, it's been a while since I messed with it.

Sounds like you just need to top off the tranny fluid and do a quick kickdown linkage adjustment. Shifting into 2nd at 20-25mph seems a bit late to me but if you like that adjustment then go for it. Let us know if you need more info on how to adjust the kickdown.
