Post subject:  Dual Exhaust 65 Valiant
Well, after all the articles and research and modifications i finally got the dual exhaust on my 65 last weekend. Since it is a daily driver (son) and we are in a colder environment i went with the front dutra and modified the original manifold so as to keep the choke. I used 2" aluminized 14 gauge exhaust pipe, The biggest headache on the entire project was going around the gas tank on the passenger side. The gas tank is offset to the passenger side and the tank hanger bolt is also on that side, took many different tries but i think the finished product looks great. So as everyone likes to see pictures here they are.

The saying goes "if it's too loud you're too old". Well i think i'm too old. My son thinks it's great and it sounds really nice also. I haven't driven it much but the echo off the cars next to you on the highway is pretty loud. The car would turn heads before but now they really look.

Looks really good. What mufflers are those they look like thrush welded mufflers. I have a similar setup and used the thrush welded mufflers. Sounded great at idle but at mid rpm sounded like someone beating on a bunch of empty tin garbage cans.....What's your experience....or are those something different

They are Dynamax welded mufflers. I didn't want the exhaust system to be worth more than the car. The car sounds great, it's just the loud humm coming back (echo) off of the vehicles next to you, Just too much for me but a 24 year old (son) doesn't mind at all, actually he likes it. When I do my 64 conv. i will go with something a little quieter. The wife and I usually cruise around in the conv. on nice weekends and I don't think she would appreciate a loud vehicle. It would be a good excuse for not hearing her though when we're driving :D

straight pips out the back instead of turn downs will help a little with the noise. but very nicely done! I wish my dual exhaust came out that good.

Hi,.......Looking at your photos of the exhaust system, what I think seems to be missing is a "Balance Tube " between the two exhausts to cut down on the resinance ( Loud noise, Echoing, drone if you like ).This was told to me way back in the '80's, I found it to work o.k. Best place to put one in, would have to be where an exhaust person can weld all around at both ends without too much trouble, keeping as far forward as possible, all this easier said than done and another small headache for the exhaust man, oh by the way an excellent job on the exhaust set-up, good luck ......................John
