Ok I managed to find the post with the part # for the distributor......There's a new one (and it's a 3874714, which has a good advance curve). AHHH that old post had a link to ebay, item not availible anymore! Well is that the right part #(3874714) for the distributor? Where would be a good place to order a new one, I really don't wan't a rebuilt one. NGK ZFR5N for spark plug tube heads but mine is the new style head, which NGK plugs?? |

Get a new distributor, P/N '714 or '082, from Old Car Parts Northwest . NGK spark plug UR5 for the '75+ peanut-plug head, gap to 0.040". |

Thanks Dan, thats the info I was missing. Which distributor is better, or does it matter? On the plug gaps, I've seen everyone opening theirs up to .045 would it matter if I did the same or would I be able to tell the difference? |

The bigger the gap, the greater the stress (and faster the wear) on the entire secondary side of the ignition. If you can live with more frequent cap and rotor replacement, and you're using good quality plug wires and a good coil, 0.045" will work. As for which distributor to pick...I don't have a curve map of the '082 unit. I think (but am not certain) that the difference between '714 and '082 is manual vs. automatic trans, respectively. |

Ok that makes sense, guess I'll stick with .040 for now. Our tranny is a manual so i'll order the 714. Thanks Dan. |
