Post subject:  Interchangeability of 7-1/4" spider gears?

After street racing a V-6 5 speed Dumbstang with my 318-2 '72 Dart last week (tie race), the spider / differential gears went out after another day of driving. There are some broken teeth in there, or at least some very rounded off ones, from the way it sounds.

I have an 8-1/4" axle to go into the Dart, but it's holding up the back end of my 1971 Valiant right now, so it'll wait until my Duster gets on the road (a couple months at least).

I think I can just swap another set of spiders into the 7-1/4" without removing the carrier from the housing, but I've heard that some 7-1/4" axles have C-clips, and others bolt the axles in like an 8-3/4". Which years are which way, and what years should I look in to find repair parts for my '72 axle?

Sorry to say that the carrier will need to come-out because threr is no way to slide-out the spider gear cross shaft without removing the ring gear. (the ring geat traps it)
