Post subject:  I met with Johnny today!

Johnny looked things over. He will take a look at the 62-66 mounts in a couple of weeks. He's pretty busy at the moment.

He took one look at the 60-61 mounts and what we were proposing to build for the 62-66 cars, and said they would be horrendously expensive. He didn't even want to think about it. So the answer is no.

He will see if one of his other mounts can be modified to work in the place of the rubber jobs for the 62-66. The proposed mount has a steel sandwich that should be very long lasting.
He has your parts Charrlie. I will get them back to you as soon as he determines what it would take to build the part. He believes they will be expensive compared to the stuff we get from China or India.
He brought me up to speed on India parts. Stay away from them! If in doubt, smell them. Notice they don't smell like rubber? That's because they are made of something else mixed in. You don't want to know!
The chinese mounts are far superior to the stuff coming out of India. Charlie's mounts are from China. Believe it or not, that's the good stuff.

So far he's sold 1/2 a Dozen spool mounts. He plans to get them added to his web site over the next couple of days. If your in the market for new mounts, visit his web site, and use his contact area to order your parts.

Johnny specializes in 2.2L Turbo cars. In fact he hasn't got anything that isn't a turbo! Two vans, one of the Shelby Omni's set up for Autocross, and various others. Like this 1 of 50 Government K-car factory Turbo Wagon.

Johnny is a great guy. We must have BS'd for an hour! Neat stuff, great projects, like a full rebush of an F-Body K-frame on one of his benches.

Quite the fabrication shop too! His driveway is almost impassable for my front wheel drive Suzuki/Chevy/Geo thing. I thought I was going to throw some hub caps!

Fun visit!

OK, so much for that idea. I guess it stands to reason, given how much bent heavy-gauge metal those mounts involve.

H'mm. Why not just repro the '62-'66 rubber blocks in poly? Or am I misunderstanding? :?:

Well, sure, but the Chinese/Indian ones cost what, $6 apiece!

Tut tut…looks like rain!

Sounds like a fun visit — thanks for being the "man on the ground" for this project.

Johnny has a mount that he may be able to make a small modification to that will work. What he needs right now are photographs of installed mounts to see what clearance issues he will face, and so forth. Post them here. Try to make them somewhat small. I slowed my internet down a bunch, and the huge photos are a problem these days.

If you have seen the captured mounts, where the steel plates interlock, that is what he proposes. Other than that, the only difference will be the Poly, and Johnny's excellent workmanship. He makes some very nice stuff.

Yep, Cow poop. How appropriate for an emerging economy that worships hamburger on the hoof.

It was fun visiting with Johnny and seeing all the goodies and toys he employs. Finding his house takes detailed instructions. Apparently GPS and map quest result in a wild goose chase! It was a long day yesterday. A bit over 600 miles. I'll putt home tomorrow. We're in Chiloquin enjoying Linda's folks hospitality. :D

I agree with Dan. I'm willing to pay several times over the foreign-built price for something that is high quality and will last.

While on the subject, does anyone have an idea why the '64 convertible has a different part number mount than sedans and hardtops?
