Post subject:  Headgasket Question

Hello all, I have a 68 slant with an overheating problem.
Here is what has been done:
New 3 row aluminum radaitor
New water pump
2,000 cfm electric fan
195, 180, 160 degree thermostat
Tried no thermostat
Adjusted timing up and down
Vacuum advance is working
No aparant exhaust block
Added a front spoiler
13 lbs cap

Temp rises to 230 degrees at 70mph and keeps rising
Idles at 170 all day long
None of the above mods did much to lower the temp.
My question is would a head gasket failure be the cause?
There is no oil in water or water in oil.
I do notice with the cap off, after reving the engine coolant is thrown out.

Any sugestions?
Thanks.

A block that old will have allot of crud build up. A good flushing may help.
Do you use the rear block drain behind the oil filter? If that won't drain very fast, it is good indicator of the amount of crud you have built up in there.....

The Royal Purple coolant additive may help once you got it cleaned out and 50/50 antifreeze. You could always add a hood scoop that will really keep it cool at speed.

Be sure to run a 16 pound cap. That will help.
