Post subject:  225 Converted to Hemi Slant Six

OK, this is my first post, so hello everyone. Now that the casualties are out of the way...
Basically im sure you have all heard of the hemi six, in case you havent its basically a slant six, with less slant (maybe straight up, not sure) and its got hemi heads instead of what our slants have. Bigger valves, hemi heads, and goes up to 265ci. It got over 300hp in the setup that came in the old chargers (265ci, 6pack carb). Basically, with some of our own backyard engineering you could have a PERFORMER vehicle. A duster in my case. Read about it here: http://store2.hemiperformance.com.au/in ... &catId=197
Heres the kicker that makes me want to cry, this is an AUSTRALIAN ONLY ENGINE. If you aint down under, you aint riding a hemi. Unless you got deep pockets. Meaning, to get one here youre looking at a few thousand in shipping alone. You may have caught onto this by checking that webpage above.
So here is my proposal. Now i understand the basics of engines and what not, but i lack the experience and fine tuning knowledge needed to answer my question. So bare with me. But, it just so happens that no one really complains to much as far as i know about most of our slant six. We can improve everything about it relatively easily. So if we could just find a way to get that hemi head onto our sixes, we would have improved the main problem with the slant six, the tiny valves that rob performance by their sheer wimpiness.
Again, its just an idea, and i may be overlooking some crucial element of engine theory, but if you bore out the slant six to 265 (doubt it, but ok) or maybe just to 245ci, as this size is availabe as well. You may also have to modify those push rods, and then theres the case where the cylinders dont have the right spacing anyhow and you need to modify your block and by the time its over you wish you would have just flown to australia and threw a hemi six in your backpack on the way home.
BUT if it did work, i think that could be a deadly combo...
Thoughts?

Completely different engine. I don't think anything other than maybe the oil filter interchanges. Nothing is common, nothing interchanges. Nothing.

The bore spacing of the 2 engines are different...........

The Hemi 6 has nothing in common with a Slant, and is not even a Hemi. It is closer to an AMC or Ford 6 than a Slant really.

hello,
well, what they all said,AND it is a longer engine than the slant.
there are fitting issues into previously slant equipped A bodies.
some pictures here
for you to look at.

you will see that the head is not really a hemi (like you are familiar with).
seems the term was used as a marketing tool by CAL when that range of engines were released. nasty, thrashy, rattly engines they are too. give me a smooth and trusty slant anyday.

regards,Rod

If you need one really bad there are a few on Trademe nz as I was looking today to see if there was any cool stuff my New Zealand tool pusher could bring me. I don't think he could fit a hemi into his checked luggage though.

Have you searched for the threads about converting a Supra head to the slant?

Geez. Don't encourage him

The slant is a great engine as is!

OK, OK. Just kidding. THe Supra head thing is an inside joke for the members on this board. It is impossible to convert the head from a Supra to the slant.

That reminds me of the time I had Wesola78 believing that Mopar installed "sock absorbers" to suck up exhaust and gas fumes and that the high performance and luxury cars got "sock absorbers" with grey toes.

I'm just wondering when you are going to post dyno results on the Turbonator!

Yep 8)

The Hemi-6 is about 3 1/2" longer then a slant too remember, the Aussie cars had a longer engine bay to make room. You can fit them into the shorter US engine bay, but it's tight..

Few comparison pics a while ago when I had a slant head laying around...(I have fresh VB now  )

Hemi vs Slant length...

And intake sizes..
