Post subject: what size is this bolt?
PostPosted: Wed May 22, 2002 12:20 pm
The bolt that goes from the alternator bracket into the head on my '63 Valiant seems to have disappeared. The car is making a terrible squeak, does anyone know what size this bolt is so I can get a replacement?

Thanks!

What size is the Crank bolt? Would be nice to have that pull the ballencer back on rather then use a hammer again...

Thanks!
PS: The mopar bushing kit is 22bux...But my local speed shop has Chevy ones that a few bux...I hear they are the same.

Thanks for the information, nothing quite like the relief of fixing a hideous noise in the car for 32 cents :)

CrAlt,

The crank bolt is 3/4 fine thread X 1.5" long. You will likely need a longer one (2" or more)than that to install a balancer though.

You gonna make any Slant races this year?

Cheers,

Lou

I use a 5" long piece of 3/4 - 16 unf threaded stock and a large nut / washer. With this I can thread-in the stud under no load then wrench down the nut to push-on the damper. (this keeps you from wearing-out the crank snout threads)I use the washer in between the nut & damper face and coat it with anti-seize to cut down on the friction.

These work but they are a little longer so I cut them in half (lathe work) so I get a "2 bushings for 1" deal!
