Hey all, I'm the guy with the wasted '67 Barracuda..

For a refresher, check here.. have a strong stomach..

http://www.flickr.com/photos/57785272@N00/

...I'm getting bent over by the insurance company (naturally), and because of the "poor" condition of my car I'm netting $5700 plus salvage for the vehicle.. ($1200 value).. If only I'd have put new carpet in it and done an Earl Scheib paint job.. Their appraisal was a JOKE, but another appraiser said he'd be hard pressed to get them to kick down more for the car.. Best to recoup value in parts.. All things considered, I'm doing better than the other person who was struck by the boneheaded kid-- Their 98 Infinity QX4 is buying totaled out for $6 or 7k.. Hurray for keeping all my receipts.. ($14,200 worth)..

Anyhow, I couldn't pass on a '67 Valiant V-100.. It'll be the second car I have with rubber floors.. (I also own a 96 Caprice 9C1 ex-cop car).. She's runnin the 170/3 manual column shift.. 83k miles.. Never been hit.. I'd post pics for everyone but the server where they're hosted is down :(

Here are parts I can carry over from the barracuda in one way or another..

73+ Discs (10.87 rotors, but I have the 11.75's in the garage if I need)
... never was too thrilled with these, though. Could never get my pedal firm for more than 2 days.. It always stopped well enough, but the brake pedal had some serious travel.

Reinforced 73+ k-member

Decent running .040 360.. Lots of money invested into this dog of a motor.. Urgh. Got 50k miles out of her.. I'm thinking I'd do a rattlebomb rebuild on her first.. Mainly just seals.. She leaks like a sieve.. stupid MP finned valve covers, I bet!

Built-by-me 904.. Leaky, as well.. Tons of shavings in the pan.. But, hasn't failed or slipped yet..

Junkyard 8.25 3.23 open that whined and howled (wheel bearing, I bet)

Pypes Stainless exhaust (2.5")

Good 3-core radiator (and while its out I'll fit it with the 3.8L Ford electric fan.. That sucker moves air and has a built in shroud.. I just need to fab up a piece to fit the mopar factory shroud mount..)

...The Val needs a fuel tank (previous owner drilled two drain holes in the drunk and hit the tank.. DOH!) so I'm thinking of getting one with a sump for an eventual EFI experiment.. Or, just to have a return line..

...Here's what I'm thinking for the Val..

Doctor Diff 13" Cobra discs up front (always wanted these for the cuda.. and I believe they use the 73+ disc spindles..)

B-body 8-3/4 3.23 open (already have it in the garage. Was going to replace the 8.25 when it gave up.. but it never did!)

Doctor Diff 13" Cobra rear discs (for pure excess.. and because I hate working on drum brakes..)

17" Mustang rims and tires (they're cheap.. and they look ok.. not great, but the price is right usually)..

...Here comes the hard part.. Do I find a 73+ slanty k-member and reinforce it like I did my V8? Or just swap in the V8?

Maybe swap the 3 speed for a 4 speed?

...I'm not sure what I'd do with the 360/904 combo other than put it on a stand and wait for the buzzin' half dozen to blow up.. (read: never!)

Just musing out loud.. Sorry I'm rambling..

What about options for freshening up the 170? Would the AussieSpeed Hurricane be an option? Since my experience is with V8 4bbl, I was thinking this might be a decent combo..

Stock 170 bottom end (with 83k she's just getting broken in...)
Aussie Hurricane 4bbl (group buy coming up!) with a Thermoquad (should adjust to the engine size, right? or am I overestimating the strengths of a TQ?)
Dutra Duals (someone has them on craigslist locally for $900??? They're not that expensive, are they?)

...Any thoughts? Or should I just stick with the 170 as is and keep her as a slow lane cruiser?

Thanks for any input.. And sorry for the rambling :)

1967 Plymouth Valiant V-100 (paid for, haven't moved her local yet)
1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS (my first old car.. back before Barret Jackson)
1996 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 (former Mountain View P.D., Northern California) ... V8, A/C, and the price was right =D

Welcome to the forum. Since this IS a slant six forum I would encourage you to keep the 170. That being said if you are a decesnt gear head and want to spend some coin you can make that engine feel like a mild 318.
Read through the posts and spend some time searching and when you have some questions hollar.
The brakes will be fine as is the 8 3/4 or even the 8 1/4.

My MP covers don't leak. Sometimes you need to modify the upper lip. They hit on some intakes and then don't sit flat.
