I want to replace the rear end in my 73 duster with a 8" 67 mustang rear end and change the ratio to a 4.62 gear and mini spool. the mustang rear end is about 1 inch wider. i was told this will work ok and the drive shaft would work ok. any thoughts? has anyone tried this? NORMAN@ALLTEL.NET |

Norman, You will probably have to cut the sring pads off the Ford rear end and weld on new to make it fit under your car. You might also need an adapter U-joint, to go from your driveshaft to the Ford yoke. Just out of curiosity, why the 8" and not an 8 3/4" rearend? An A-body rear would bolt right in. Good luck! madmax6995@hotmail.com |

The u-joint might be o.k. I borrowed a u-joint from a ford with that same rear end during a demo derby and it worked great to band-aid the one I blew up on my Mopar... 8" are more common in junkyards in some areas, and being a budget slanter I'm sure the turn off of $500 for a rear end and $350 for a used nicely geared chunk with sure grip might be pricey compared to the easy to find ford rear. I'd like to know how the conversion turns out, a ford friend has a couple of those rears both with lockers in the 3.42ish range. -D.Idiot res0aus2@verizon.net |
