Why does the size of a converter matter? Is it the weight and how fast it can be spun? I here guys say 8". 9", 10",etc. Frank |

In general, the smaller the size, the higher the stall speed you get, with good efficiency. You can get larger converters to stall at higher rates but they are not as efficient, making a lot of heat in the process. Most of the "low cost" high stall converters that are in the larger factory shell sizes have been cut open and had their inner vains "bent" in a way that makes them stall higher but doing that does not transmit all the power thru the unit. Doc So I here the guys talk mostly about 8" converters. They would be high stall purpose build. So for the FED I will look for an 8". Thanks, Frank |
