| Post subject: | Int/Exh torque again? |
Looking at a long block on my engine stand, and am wondering about the possibility of replacing the int/exh studs with bolts. Thinking that if I'm hanging split man's or headers, with an alum. intake, would the bolt torque be anywhere near so critical anymore? Any advice/thoughts/theories? Roger GTS225@aol.com |

Leave the studs in Roger, mostly because all those holes go into the waterjacket You don't want to run the chance of wearing out theaded holes and fighting leaks. You can buy higher quality studs but the reason for the low factory torque spec is to allow the stock cast iron exhaust manifold to move, really to slide accross the gaskit as it heats and cools. Intake manifolds and headers do not really need to slide so you can clamp down on the nuts a bit harder with them. DD |

I was just removing those same 'pesky' studs today, and I was just thinking about a better grade stud, because two were broken in the head. And lo, 'the Doctor' mentions better quality studs. Does ARP make the appropriate size grade 8+ whatever int/exh studs? While I am in the neighborhood, you once mentioned coming up with the PN's for other ARP fasteners for sl/6's. Did I miss it?
